Well actually there is and it is fasting. Wait hear me out.  Scientific research and my own personal experience as well as the experience of the customers I have worked with have shown that intermittent fasting has dramatic effects on weight loss and health.  It's how you do it that is the key.

When I was a child I had severe asthma and was put on steroids (prednisone) many  times and had course after course of antibiotics as well as an estimated 40 x-rays all before I was 10.  My mother is Polynesian (Maori) and was thin and healthy until her early 30 when the weight creep started and by the time I was 10 she was well over 250lbs (113kg).  She had what was considered terrible eating habits in the age of the low fat mantra.  She also grew up starving in a very poor community so she had the almost obsessive desire to make everything fat.

It was sign within the Maori culture that fat equalled health and prosperity as it was, at that time  unusual to be fat.  To be fat meant that you were rich and well looked after.  So she fed us and fed us.  Cakes, ice cream and meat pies were regular dietary staples.  Biscuits and Cake for breakfast as well as everything deep fried in vegetable oil.  My diet was terrible and combined with the steroids and other medication my weight skyrocketed and I was pudgy at 12 and fat at 16.  This was just before the boom in adolescence obesity so I was the fattest girl in class all the way through school.

I spent my late teens and early 20’s on every diet I could. Nothing worked for more than a couple of weeks and I resigned myself to the life of the pretty, but fat girl and got on with my life.  I was around 200lbs (90kg) from my late teens till my mid 20’s I then moved to the UK and spent 8 years there working mostly in live in care jobs where the boredom level was extreme and the availability of processed snacks high.  The weight piled on and when I finally returned home 8 years later I was 29 years old and 335lbs (152kg).  I went to see a Doctor about my extreme weight and his advice was “Eat less and exercise more” - I can see why they pay those guys the big dollars! The advice was next to useless and just made me angry because if it was that easy wouldn’t I have done that, would we all have done that!?

I did some of my own research as the internet was well underway then and decided the Atkins diet was worth a shot I also got a job in a dialysis renal unit as a nurse and managed to get my weight down to 250lbs (115kg).

I then meet my most divine husband and we promptly had the first of our 2 children and I settled into a life of domestic bliss and mummy hood – delighted in both my son and my husband and from being so busy I lost even more weight and settled at around 200lbs again.  However after the birth of our first child I actually lost weight through being so busy and not having time to eat.

I stayed there until after the birth of our last baby.  I never lost the weight gained during pregnancy and then it just kept getting higher and higher.  I topped out again at 335lbs (152kg).  I tried Atkins again I would lose 10 lbs then blow it with a kings sized bar of chocolate.  I tried the HCG diet and did lose 30 in 30 days.  It stayed off for about a month then it slowly crept back and it was too brutal I was always hungry and obsessed with food all the time.

The first turning point came for me when I was 4 weeks out from my 40th birthday.  I got the flu and I couldn’t shake it, it got worse to the point where I couldn’t breath and was constantly coughing had fevers sweats and chills and stabbing pains in my chest.  I went to the Doctor and he told me I had pneumonia and needed to go straight to hospital they admitted me for 3 weeks gave me IV anti biotics, steroids and nebulisers every 4 hours.  When I was discharged I felt better but was still very unwell and my breathing was terrible - my childhood asthma that I hadn’t had for 30 years came back with a vengeance. 

So I decided to do a 14 day water fast. (Don't worry that's not what you will be doing - I was so desperate I just went extreme)  After the first 2 days I wasn’t hungry but I was still so weak form being sick that sleeping was all I wanted to do anyway.  I went and had 3 colonics as well but it wasn’t until day 10 that I really started to feel better.

By day 14 I felt well enough to start eating and could breathe and walk without feeling like I was about to have asthma attack. That was my first experiment with fasting, the next few years saw me try it on and off and mix it in with Paleo and try many other things. Paleo did make me feel better but after 2 years of paleo overall I felt better but was still 310lbs (142 kg).

Then about a year ago I was working at our clinic and I felt like I was going to faint – I then felt like I was going to vomit.  I went for a blood test and a check up with my Doctor because I could feel my heart hammering away in my chest and doing odd beats.  I was terrified I was having a heart attack.  Here I was 42 years old still well over 300lbs, tired, bloated and the blood test revealed I was on the verge of becoming type 2 diabetic. I was wheezy, had IBS, anxiety and depression and I just thought – you know what this sucks and there has to be a way to beat this without drugs and diet shakes and crossfit!  And so I started researching much more deeply and experimenting on myself and that led me to the creation of this program you are about to embark on with me.  

 

But first things first. Why? Why does it have to be this way?  What I have found out is that obesity is a hormonal problem not a greed or a sloth issue and so many overweight people are shamed into believing that it is all their fault.

I was a nurse and a university lecturer to degree level students and I knew that there must be some missing piece that no one was either able to find or had found but didn’t develop because there was no ‘product’ to sell and make money from.  

This Is it, the missing piece and it's going to be easy, fast, effective, doable and exciting.
